Almost half of Poles declare that they would not like to have their own business – according to the report of the inclusion foundation. Four issues turn out to be key barriers.

According to the report of the Foundation, “Polish women and entrepreneurship 2024: Barriers in establishing a company”, 47 percent. Poles declare that he would not like to have their own business. Reason? It turns out that the most frequently mentioned barrier is the lack of funds to start a business (41 percent). One -third of respondents admits that they feel fear of failure. Not much less, because 31 percent respondents showed concerns related to bureaucracy and a lack of knowledge of the regulations.

Why are Poles afraid to set up companies?

The results of the study show that before starting their own business, the lack of confidence is much more often stopped by women than men (37 and 23 % respectively). Similarly, the family situation is more likely to give up your business for women than men (13 and 6 %, respectively). In turn, men more often than women as an obstacle to running their own business indicate their health (21 and 10 percent, respectively), as well as a lack of support from the immediate environment (9 and 4 % respectively).

The report shows that 47 percent Poles do not plan to run their own business, and every third is afraid of failure – this is a clear signal that we need not only tools, but also changes in the narrative around entrepreneurship. The fact that as much as 52 percent Poles with higher education are afraid of losing stabilization when setting up their own business, shows that even people with high competence capital do not feel safe today in the face of entrepreneurship risk – comments Monika Król, vice president Blik.

At the same time, people with lower education are more likely to indicate health or family situation as a barrier, which suggests that the fears are strongly socially diverse and require an individualized approach. We need specific solutions that will reduce the threshold of entering business and reduce the risk – such as free advice and training for beginners, lower ZUS contributions to start or easier access to loans supporting the development of business activities. Only then will your own company become a real professional alternative – he adds.

The study was carried out at the request of the inclusion Foundation in September 2024 by socioloży.pl using a CAWI methodology using a licensed panel ensuring representativeness of the sample in terms of sex, age, the size of the place of residence and the region at the test of Polish women and Poles aged 16-65.
