Aleksandra Kałucka – Olympic medalist. An extraordinary story of a Polish woman

Aleksandra Kałucka comes from Tarnów and is only 22 years old. A year younger than Iga Świątek (although the same age), the Polish athlete has just stood on the Olympic podium. Kałucka won the bronze medal in the Paris Games in the timed climbing. In the three decisive races, counting from the quarterfinals, she lost only once. To the eventual winner, Aleksandra Mirosław. Although Kałucka beat her personal record in the “Polish semifinal” (6.34 seconds).

Interestingly, only due to Olympic regulations, two Polish representatives with the surname Kałucka did not appear in Paris. The twin sister of the 2024 Olympic medalist Natalia – did not manage to break into the team – where there were only two places available. And in the case of Natalia Kałucka, we are talking about a world champion (2021) or a gold medalist of the European Games (2023). This time, Aleksandra was the more important of the twins, although both emphasize how strong support they are for each other. Natalia was present in Paris, watching the success of her beloved twin sister.

The success of the Polish woman is truly worthy of the greatest praise. Not everyone knows that the Kałucki sisters had a really difficult start in life. Sylwia Kałucka told about it in a material for TVP Sport.

– The girls were born at the beginning of the seventh month. They were in very serious condition. After two months, it was suspected that they would not see or walk, they would not be physically fit. Thanks to rehabilitation, everything went well. For the first three years, it was strict and very arduous. It was days and nights of exercises. Both sisters have repeatedly emphasized that they faced adversity, not looking for excuses, and made it to the world’s top in speed climbing. Aleksandra, like her sister, is blind in one eye, but she has specialized in her beloved discipline to such an extent that she achieves such great results as the one in the Olympic competition in Paris.

So far, Aleksandra Kałucka’s biggest success in her senior career has been the first place in the overall classification of the World Cup in speed climbing. This is a result achieved in 2022. However, the Olympic medal erased all records.
