Alarm for Iga Świątek. It happened during Wimbledon
The Italian Elisabett Cocciaretto made a gigantic sensation, eliminating the American Jessica Pegul from Wimbledon. A few days ago the latter triumphed in WTA 500 Bad Homburg.
This result best shows how perverse tennis can be, especially when looking at Grand Slam competition. Elisabetta Cocciaretto is currently a player from place number 116 in the WTA ranking. Jessica Pegula? World “Three”.
However, when it came to fight in the first round of Wimbledon, the first of the mentioned in two sets turned out to be better. What’s more, the Italian won relatively easily, because 6: 2, 6: 3.
PEGULA last Saturday won the grass courts during the WTA 500 Bad Homburg tournament. In the final, the American dealt with the Iga of Świątek.
Wimbledon: Big surprises at the start of the tournament in London!
Włoszka’s winning over the American is also a alarming situation for the best Polish single. It happens that playing in tournaments just before the challenges like the Great Slam, can be treacherous. Hubert Hurkacz found out about it, just before the struggle in Roland Garros 2025. The Polish tennis player reached the ATP 250 final in Geneva. There he lost to Novak Djokovic – after a great, emotional duel.
You could, therefore, hope for something big performed by Hurkacz during the Paris tournament. And as it turned out, the Pole completely disappointed and dropped out of Grand Slam struggles in the first round. He explained after losing in the French capital, which had an impact on his much worse attitude.
Pegula in Germany also looked very good, just like Świątek. The American, however, showed a much worse face in London. How will it be in the case of a Polish woman? Polish tennis players will find out about this on Tuesday (i.e. July 1), late afternoon. Then number 4 in the WTA ranking will face the Russian, Polina Kudermietowa.
The furthest in the legendary London tournament of Świątek checked in in the quarter -finals – in 2023. How will it be in this year’s edition? It seems that it should be fine. The Polish woman in the 2025 season played in two Grand Slam semi -finals, in Melbourne and Paris. Who knows, maybe it’s time for the third such result for the seasonal collection.
On the other hand, Wimbledon 2025 has been full of surprises from the first day.
