Airport paralysis weekend coming. Passengers on these airlines need to be careful

A European airport has announced strikes. Passengers flying this weekend will feel the effects. One country in particular needs to be especially careful.

The paralysis of communication will affect two airports in Portugal. The effects of this will be felt primarily by those traveling to or from Lisbon and Porto. The Portuguese Transport Workers’ Union Sttamp warns of problems. It is known that Ryanair and Wizz Air passengers will suffer, among others.

Weekend chaos at airports

Sttamp’s announcement means that we need to be prepared for major disruptions. “There have been no negotiations that would allow the strike to be called off, if it did happen, it would certainly cause serious restrictions at national airports, especially in Porto and Lisbon, the consequences of which are currently completely unpredictable,” Sttamp warned in a statement, as reported by Portugal News. This means that they tried to prevent the situation from happening, but no one wanted to accept the union’s demands.

The airport workers’ strikes are caused by their dissatisfaction with current salaries. They are employees of the SPdH transshipment company. They emphasize that their salaries do not reach the minimum value. In addition, they are bothered by the regular employment of workers from a temporary agency and overtime, which exceeds the applicable limits.

Travelers should check if they are flying

The situation mentioned applies to Saturday and Sunday, i.e. August 31 and September 1, 2024. Passengers will face flight cancellations and delays in all directions served by airlines cooperating with the handling company SPdH. D

The above-mentioned companies include Wizz Air and Ryanair. The Hungarian carrier flies from Warsaw to Porto and Lisbon, as well as to the Portuguese island of Madeira from Katowice and Warsaw. Ryanair, on the other hand, offers daily flights to Lisbon from Modlin, Poznań and Kraków, and to Porto from Kraków, Modlin and Wrocław.

The Portuguese union is already recommending that travelers contact their airlines to confirm whether their flight will actually go ahead – this will allow them to change any plans. Those who are still considering a trip to Portugal this weekend should think carefully about their decision. It may be better to choose a different date.
