Airport or campus? The government has a plan on Okęcie after 2032

What next with Chopin Airport after opening CPK? The government presents an alternative to developers – a technology and science campus.
The Central Communication Port is to start operating at the end of 2032. With its opening, the entire passenger traffic will be moved from the Warsaw Chopin Airport to the new port in Baranów. What will happen to the current airport? The Government Plenipotentiary for CPK, dr inż. Maciej Lasek.
What about Chopin Airport?
In the Onet program, the Lasek financially presented an alternative vision of developing areas at Chopin Airport in the morning. In his opinion, they should not hit the hands of developers or be transformed into a housing district. Instead, he proposed to create an innovation and technology center.
He emphasized that the decision to change the destiny of such a strategic space is not taken hastily. “Many say that it will be best to close the airport and do there, I do not know, a housing district. Developers rub their hands. However, I think that such a decision is not made just like that ad hoc” – noted the representative.
According to his proposal, this place could become a “campus of new technologies of the future.” The existing airport infrastructure, good communication and proximity to the capital make this area ideal for the development of modern research, conference and technological institutions. Lasek pointed to the possibility of organizing scientific events and conferences there and to create an innovation center.
Warsaw and Łódź
An additional advantage is to be the planned rail connection between Warsaw and Łódź. Thanks to fast rail connections, travel time between Western Warsaw and Fabryczna Łódź is to only be 37 minutes. Lasek compared this to a subway travel between two stations in Warsaw. In his opinion, this will open the way to combine the potential of both cities and create a joint technology development center.
According to the schedule, CPK is to start full commercial activities in 2032. Until then, the government is considering various scenarios for Chopin Airport, while the proposal of the technological campus is gaining importance as an alternative to housing projects.
