Adrianna Sułek-Schubert couldn’t take it anymore on the internet. “You’re contributing to hate”
Social media exchanges can take a surprising turn. Especially when one of the commenters is… athlete Adrianna Sułek-Schubert.
Athletics fans in Poland are certainly very familiar with the Athletic News profile on the X portal. This is a place where the user Nedops has been providing reliable information about the results achieved in athletics competitions for many years. This pseudonym is Tomasz Spodenkiewicz, whose character was once portrayed by Michał Chmielewski from TVP Sport.
Adrianna Sułek-Schubert in an exchange of views with a famous expert
Why did we write about this surprising turn of events? Sułek-Schubert decided to take issue with one of the posts by the aforementioned Nedops for a completely surprising reason.
What exactly was it about? About Saturday’s entry, informing about the performance of a famous Polish athlete. Specifically, as you might guess, about this fragment:
“Adrianna Sułek-Schubert 1.75, minimal knockdown in the third jump to 1.78. This is the weakest result of a Polish woman in the high jump in over 2 years (in May 2022 no height recorded at the Polish academic championships)” – we read in the entry on the X portal.
The athlete decided to respond, which we quote in the first part. And then to refer in subsequent comments to how… the author tried to defend himself.
– Please, man, explain to me what does such a post achieve? Am I supposed to gain a group of fans with this? Make people fall in love with the heptathlon? Why do you always clip the wings of the majority? (…) Do you see the difference in the post “seven months after giving birth, Sułek jumps 175 with a minimal abrasion in mid-September at 178”? Do you see the difference? You constantly give all messages a pejorative tone (…) You consider yourself an expert in track and field. You have some influence on the fans. They follow you because they know that you post current results. Great. But do you understand to what extent you contribute to the hate that we face? (…) I know that you care about reach and your opinion gets clicks, but you really don’t have much idea about our preparations, form and the path we are on – we read in the posts referring to the user Athletic News.
The response from the addressee was unequivocal. It is difficult to detect any malice on the part of the author.
– If I cared about reach, I would probably approach the various unfavorable comments some people have made about you in the past differently. My goal has never been to create a “storm”, but to provide objective and quick information. Cheers and good luck tomorrow! – said a user of the X portal, known in the world of athletics.
One might get the impression that the athlete has gained very little and lost more in the eyes of fans. At least looking through the prism of comments posted on the old Twitter, under the previously quoted exchange of words.
