Activists in Zakopane carry frogs in buckets. Why are they doing this?
Grass frogs are currently migrating through Zakopiańska lizard, which want to fold. As every year, the Tatra National Park organized help for those in love with amphibians.
On Monday, March 24 in the evening, the grass frogs began their spring migration to breeding places. These include A center of active amphibian and reptiles at the Zakopane lizard and areas along the Olczysie Potok. The problem is that their route is crossed by a busy road from Zakopane towards Cyrhla and Morskie Oko.

– This is a special moment in nature, but also a time of increased vigilance for drivers. Moving frogs are exposed to death under the wheels, which is why TPN volunteers each year help them safely get to the other side of the road, to the pond so that they can fold. The action allows the protection of subsequent generations of frogs-explained the volunteer coordinator at Jolanta Sitarz-Wójcicka’s Tatra National Park.
Naturalists, however, are not limited to appeals to reduce speed and caution by drivers. A barrier was placed along the road, which prevents frogs from entering asphalt. In addition, volunteers collect amphibians several times a day and transfer them to the other side of the road.

One of a dozen or so activists in an interview with tvn24.pl admitted that a few years ago he looked at similar actions with a grain of salt. Currently, however, he was involved in helping wild animals and is released from work to help Żabs in their most important journey.
– I became more interested in Tatra nature and found that as many species as possible, including frogs, should be protected. The road crosses their natural migration area and unfortunately die under the wheels of cars. This year, I was very keen to take part in this action – admitted Szymon Szwajda.
Grass frogs fold up to 4.5 thousand. eggs, but ultimately a small amount of tadpoles experience and grows up. The life cycle of these amphibians reaches up to eight years. The action of carrying animals will last only a few days. After this time, mass migration to breeding places in the form of shallow, fast -heating water reservoirs will end.
