A2 is now officially longer. Another city has gained a bypass

GDDKiA announced that the first of three sections of the A2 motorway between Mińsk Mazowiecki and Siedlce has been made available. This is the route from the Siedlce Zachód junction to the Siedlce Południe junction, which is part of the future southern motorway bypass of the city.

Drivers will soon be able to use another section of the A2 motorway, between the Kałuszyn and Groszki junctions. The contractor has already submitted an application to the Provincial Building Inspectorate for a use permit and is carrying out the final finishing works, informs the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.

The A2 has been extended east of the capital

In August 2020, 15 kilometers of the motorway from the Lubelska junction to the beginning of the Mińsk Mazowiecki bypass were opened to traffic. Now, 7.1 km of the route has been added, also with a dual carriageway cross-section with two lanes and a reserve for the future construction of a third lane. The Siedlce Zachód and Siedlce Południe junctions allow drivers to connect with DK2. The new section will take transit traffic out of Nowe and Stare Iganie and the current city bypass along DK2. Its length is almost 12.5 km, and the remaining 5.4 km are sections that connect with neighboring tasks (Groszki – Siedlce Zachód and Siedlce Południe – Malinowiec). We will make them available when these sections are opened to traffic.

Two junctions were built: Siedlce Zachód and Siedlce Południe. In addition, parallel roads were built to serve the adjacent area, environmental protection devices (e.g. acoustic screens) and road safety (e.g. energy-absorbing barriers).

On this section, as well as the remaining ones between Mińsk Mazowiecki and Siedlce, the wide central reservation, which is a reserve for the expansion of an additional traffic lane, was made using a different technology. Instead of filling it with humus and sowing grass, as before, hardened aggregate was used with a sealed surface, the roughness and grip of which will minimize the risk of losing control of the vehicle in the event of leaving the main carriageway (compared to the “green” central reservation). This is a pilot solution that will minimize maintenance work, eliminating grass mowing and the associated traffic disruptions.

Siedlce – Biała Podlaska, four sections with a total length of 63.4 km

On the A2 section being implemented closest to Biała Podlaska (Swory – Biała Podlaska), finishing works, installation of energy-absorbing barriers, drainage, paving and topsoiling works are underway. Works related to the construction of the Road Maintenance Circuit are also underway. On the three remaining tasks, from the Siedlce Południe junction to Swor, contractors are carrying out road works related to laying the road structure layers. Works are being carried out on bridge structures, and underground infrastructure colliding with the course of the road is being rebuilt. The progress on each section is different. This results, among other things, from the date of obtaining the decision on the permit for the implementation of the road investment (ZRID).

The percentage progress of work is as follows:

  • Siedlce South – Malinowiec – 49 percent

  • Malinowiec – Łukowisko – 39 percent

  • Łukowisko – Swory – 27 percent

  • Swory – Biała Podlaska – 93 percent
