The Achat Hotels group announced bankruptcy. The decision to submit an application for proceedings in this case was announced by GBK Beteiligungen AG, the owner of the network.

This move may be surprising, because – as Radio Zet reminds – last year the German hotel chain proudly announced record revenues and opened 14 new facilities. What is the reason for bankruptcy? In an official statement, the company admits that it has recently been unable to meet its financial obligations in a difficult market environment. – In the difficult market environment, the Achat Hotels Group has recently been unable to adequately settle its liabilities – stated in the announcement.

The company indicates the causes of the problems include: increase in operating costs, energy prices and changes in business customers’ booking habits and high costs related to digital transformation.

The radio station reminds that the chain offers three- and four-star hotels not only in Germany, but also in Budapest. In addition, GBK Beteiligungen AG has a second hotel line, Loginn Hotels, aimed at a younger target group. Next year, the company planned to open a hotel in Mönchengladbach, but in the current situation, these plans are in doubt.

Questions about the near future are asked by chain customers who have made or planned to make a reservation. For now, there is no information about any changes in this regard. Reservations are still possible, and hotel operations continue uninterrupted for now. It is also unknown whether the hotels will be sold or whether some facilities will be closed. The company’s management ensures that it takes all possible steps to minimize negative effects on customers and its employees (the number of employees is approximately 1,500 people).
