A well-known airline cancels flights. The injured include: passengers from Poland
The European carrier intends to start the announced strike. More than thirty thousand passengers, including from Poland, must prepare for problems.
December is a hot period for air travel. Unfortunately, this month, employees of one of the large European airlines decided to go on strike. Due to the announced protests on December 9 and 13, Finnair will cancel over 300 flights, thus affecting the travel comfort of up to 30,000 passengers. The strike will also affect Poles, who will be deprived of connections on the Kraków-Helsinki-Kraków route.
The big Finnair strike is coming
The strike of the national Finnish airlines will begin in just two weeks. On December 9, due to the protest of its pilots, Finnair will be forced to cancel 140 flights, and on December 13, the next day of the strike, another 150. We can also expect cancellations in the following days. “This will unfortunately spoil the travel plans of many passengers in the busy period before Christmas. We are doing everything we can to help them in this difficult situation and offer alternative flights to as many travelers as possible,” says Jaakko Schildt, Finnair’s chief operating officer, quoted by Fly4free.pl. The strike of the Finnish Airline Pilots Association will affect the travel of up to 30,000 passengers, including Poles. “This concerns the Helsinki-Kraków rotation (flight AY1161) and the Kraków-Helsinki return flight (AY1162) planned for December 9,” we read in the Fly4free report.
The reason is money
Better employment conditions and pay raises – this is what the pilots who express their dissatisfaction are primarily demanding. It was Finnair’s employees who were affected by the change in the airline’s strategy, which after closing the airspace over Russia had to extend some of its routes, which was associated with increased transport costs and lower salaries for the crew. The owners of the airline are disappointed with the attitude of their subordinates who, instead of continuing negotiations, decided to take such a radical step. This is the second strike of this carrier’s employees in recent months.
