The “water bomb” in Florence and the evacuation of residents in France – the effects of a storm Herminia moving through Europe.
Herminia Storm, who this week took its toll on the inhabitants of Portugal, on Tuesday struck in subsequent countries, also in places popular among tourists.
Italian regions – Tuscany and Liguria were particularly affected by lightning floods. On Tuesday, water flooded the streets and underground crossings in Florence. Within three hours, as much as 75 percent fell in the city. The sum of monthly rainfall, and its authorities called the weather breakdown “of an unforeseen and extraordinary event.” Trams did not drive for several hours, and the problems were also recorded on the Florence-Piza-Livorno motorway.
On Wednesday, some parts of Tuscany still have warnings against strong winds.
Flight floods in Italy
Fortunately, the situation was not as serious as last autumn in the Emilia-Romania region. According to the Italian fire brigade, Vigili del Fuoco, no houses suffered in the flood, but many cars were destroyed. In Genoa, strong gusts of wind caused the wall to collapse. Nobody was injured, but firefighters searched the rubble to make sure that no one was imprisoned under them.
The situation was much more serious in France.
Storms in France, evacuation of residents
Red weather alerts were announced in three French regions, including Ille-ET-Vilaine after Herminia’s storm caused the worst flood there in 40 years. On Monday, the inhabitants of the western part of the country were evacuated on boats when rivers and channels occurred from the shores, after subsequent storms in Normandy and Brittany.
The areas in these two regions were wet after passing the storm last week. As a result of the element’s impact, two people died as a result of fallen trees, including a 20-year-old Pole.
“The water level will start slowly only on Wednesday,” said the mayor of Rennes on Sunday, Nathalie Appere. However, this is not certain. On Wednesday and on Thursday, the water level may increase, which the inhabitants of the entire Ille-ET-Vilaine department in Brittany were warned.
