A unique attraction on the edge of Poland. Views like a dream for PLN 10

Mosty w Stańczykach

These viaducts on the northern edge of Poland today are monuments and a great viewpoint. All you need is PLN 10 to look at beautiful nature.

In Poland we will find many places or architectural buildings that are associated with those from abroad. One of the interesting examples are bridges in Stańczyk, which look like an ancient aqueduct, i.e. a system that provides water. Due to the location, they are called aqueducts of the Romincka Forest. However, they are not what they associate with.

Bridges in Stańczyk. Unique story

The bridges in Stańczyki (actually viaducts) are over 180 meters long and enter a height of 36 meters above the small valley of the Błędzianka River. Italian associations are very correct, because it is the designers from Italy are the authors of their project. The pillars were decorated with elements modeled on Roman aqueducts in Pont du Gard, in today’s France.

The bridges were built in the 20th century and connected Gołdap with Żytkamia. Only the North Bridge was in use, erected in 1912-1914, and trains never run after the southern. Even in the 1930s, three pairs of passenger trains rode after the first of them. Later, more connections were launched due to the interest of tourists.

We will also learn from the attractions-mazury.pl blog that they once traveled with a huge load. The tracks were running depots transporting boulders from the Suwałki region to build fortifications for the Third Reich. After the end of World War II, in 1945 the tracks of the railway line were dismantled by the Red Army. Since then, trains have not traveled this way. Since 2003, the object has been in private hands and is a great viewpoint. From 1979, high bridges are monuments.

A normal ticket costs PLN 10 and a reduced ticket PLN 7. The place is easily accessible to tourists. There is a parking lot close to the viaducts and a bicycle trail runs. In the area you can go for a walk along the educational paths of the Romincka Forest or enter the observation tower.
