A tragedy at sea in the beloved country of Poles. 3 people dead

Thousands of people decide to take part in such attractions every year – some rent yachts for an hour, others for the entire stay to sleep in it like in a traditional camper. This is probably what several European tourists who vacationed in Croatia did. A tragedy occurred due to the collision of a private sailing yacht with a passenger catamaran.

Tragedy on the Adriatic Sea in Croatia

The tragedy occurred on June 14 near the central Adriatic Sea between the islands of Solta and Brač, more precisely in the Splitska Vrata strait. Three people did not survive the unfortunate accident, and one is considered missing. The remaining passengers are in hospital.

The sad news was confirmed on the evening of June 14 by the spokesman of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “We find ourselves in an extremely sad situation, at least three Czech citizens died,” he informed AFP. Among those who appeared on site were: Czech consul.

The passenger catamaran was operated by a local company and was carrying 118 passengers and seven crew members at the time of the collision. In turn, eight people were on a private sailboat, three of whom died. Nothing happened to the people on the catamaran.

After the collision, a much smaller sailboat found itself in a more difficult situation – all passengers fell overboard and only 4 people managed to be saved. An underwater drone from the Croatian Navy located a sunken yacht at a depth of more than 50 meters (164 feet). The port captain of Split, Željko Kustera, told state television station HRT that there were indications that the person considered missing was probably stuck inside.

On Monday, June 15, the extraction of the yacht from the sea will begin. The cause of the collision between the two ships has not been publicly disclosed, but it is known that the catamaran hit the smaller boat, despite good visibility. Local services are currently investigating the tragedy.
