A Tatra architectural jewel. The hotel from 1933 has undergone a metamorphosis

At first glance, the Morava Hotel in Tatranská Lomnica in the High Tatras resembles modernist holiday homes from the 1920s. It was built in 1931-1933 as a convalescent home of the Moravian Life Insurance Company. Slovaks have a fondness for him because he can be seen in the cult comedy “Angel in the Mountains”. Although the building’s façade was considered a monument, in the 21st century the facility no longer met the expectations of guests. “The hotel seemed to be stuck in the 1970s, including the staff. The only and main advantage is the proximity to the cable car to Skalne Pleso and Łomnicky peak,” wrote one of the Poles about it.

It was opened on July 1 after a renovation that lasted 1.5 years, which received wide coverage in the local media. The transformation required many consultations with the conservator.

Stairs, balustrades, glass details and expressive concrete elements have been restored, and modern elements have been introduced into the decor. The management now hopes to attract guests from Poland and abroad. The four-star facility (previously with a 2-star standard) opened a new relaxation zone with various saunas and an external glass terrace with a hot tub.

Change of hotel surroundings

The promenade around the hotel will also be rebuilt.

“I am definitely positive about the fact that the hotel was successfully rebuilt and at the same time remained as I remember it from my childhood. The government has allocated 20,000 euros for the reconstruction of the mentioned promenade, the council has approved funds for additional financing, so this summer we will do everything to make the hotel surroundings as beautiful as possible,” said the mayor of the High Tatras, Jozef Štefaňák.

In close proximity to the facility there are, among others: Cold Water Falls, a set of four picturesque cascades in the High Tatras.
