The candidate for the position of the new president of the Handball Association in Poland after Henryk Szczepański is Sławomir Szmal. The Polish handball legend already serves as vice-president of the association, but he has great ambitions to fight to win the race for the seat. Damian Drobik also takes part in the competition. It is also said that the former national team coach, Bogdan Wenta, may announce his candidacy soon. This would be quite a sensation, as the coach had recently supported Szmal.

The topic of elections will most likely be discussed at every handball event. TVP Sport reported on Friday that after last year’s world championships in Poland and Sweden, which were completely unsuccessful for the White and Reds, the Polish Handball Association allocated PLN 1.3 million from the profit for a bonus. Most of it was to go to the management account. Interestingly, the profit was caused by the organization of the event, financed by… the state.

The website also reported that Szmal was reportedly surprised by the bonus. He found out about it from… a bank account statement. As he explains, he returned it immediately, not wanting to have anything to do with her. It is not known who made the decision to withdraw the funds.

The Handball World Championship was also not a financial success. The hall in Katowice was not filled to capacity. This could have been influenced by ticket prices and the form of the representatives.
