A strong hit in Polish football! “Enough clowning”

Śląsk Wrocław i Wisła Kraków

The president and owner of the football team Wisła Kraków, Jarosław Królewski, does not intend to give up. He has just published an entry related to the next match in Wrocław.

The case concerns the upcoming Betclic 1. Liga match, in which Śląsk Wrocław will play against Wisła Kraków. It will be a clash at the top of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa base.

“If the public does not receive clear, precise information (not gibberish) within 48 hours – from the Police and Śląsk Wrocław, what is actually happening in Wrocław and what decided not to let our fans into the stadium, our team will not go to Wrocław. We cannot risk their health in such a situation, since the authorities of Śląsk Wrocław and the Police are not able to secure the meeting – and we do not know what will happen outside him.

We request the immediate closure of the stadium for this match to fans of both teams – we will not look at what is once again disturbing the sports competition. At this moment, the Wisła Kraków business club has canceled its trip to Wrocław. We have also canceled all invitations and previously purchased premium tickets by our partners.

Enough clowning.

I have already informed the team coach and the president of the Polish Football Association about the decision. Enough of making a mockery of the league, sponsors and treating the community this way. Idiotic interview of the president of Saint This morning he overflowed with gray bitterness. I do not consent to ruining the reputation of Wisła Kraków with my lack of competence,” wrote the owner and president of the Krakow club on the X website.

Storm ahead of Śląsk Wrocław – Wisła Kraków. Will there be a boycott or walkover?

The situation has been very tense for several days. The decision to not allow Wisła Kraków fans to enter the stadium turned out to be a flashpoint. A decision that the Krakow side definitely did not like. Why, summa summarum, is hardly surprising, because in normal circumstances the sports spectacle should be available to fans of both teams.

At the end of last week, the Wrocław club decided not to allow fans visiting from Krakow to enter the Tarczyński Arena stands. The latest news on this matter appeared on Tuesday (i.e. March 3) on the official WKS website.

Śląsk Wrocław decided not to allow visiting fans during the match against Wisła Kraków solely due to the safety of the event participants. We deny reports of pressure or “blackmail” from Śląsk Wrocław fans. There is no question of being guided by pressure from third parties or media pressure when it comes to the safety of event participants. Pursuant to Resolution No. II/85 of the PZPN Management Board, the host club has the right to refuse to admit an organized group of visiting fans in particularly justified cases for security reasons. As the organizer of a mass event, Śląsk Wrocław is legally responsible for the safety of people participating in the event, and the decision not to accept an organized group of visiting fans is preventive in nature and constitutes the implementation of the principle of due diligence of the organizer of a mass event. The club’s management board made the decision after consulting primarily with the police, who took note of it and classified the match as a high-risk match, the Wrocław club said.

The match is to take place next Saturday, March 7. First whistle at 5:30 p.m. Will this actually happen? If the Krakow side does not appear in Wrocław, there will be no chance for this.

The key factors are events taking place in the background of sports competition. For several days now, the Royal President has been regularly pointing out how the Wrocław club, owned by the City of Wrocław, is financed. Śląsk receives high subsidies from the city authorities, thanks to which it can compete with clubs like Krakow’s Wisła – financed in a completely different way, mainly from private funds.

Even the European Commission is to take up the issue of financing Śląsk Wrocław. This is the move that the Royal president wants to make, and he has already gained official support from another owner of the club from Krakow – first league team Wieczyńska – in the person of Wojciech Kwiecień.

– We planned to deal with the issue of financing clubs. We would probably get down to it a little later, because we were already collecting materials. However, the fact that someone receives 30 million and is unable to organize a match for 2,000 people turned out to be a trigger (…) We are at the stage of finishing the website, which will include a description of what this matter is about. Now we are assembling the team. We received a lot of applications from legal advisors and professors. This week we plan to start a group so that everyone can get to know each other virtually. We already have a lot of documents prepared. Let me tell you an interesting fact. We have learned through our channels that one similar complaint has already been filed. Perhaps this is a group of wise Wrocław residents who themselves submitted a request to the European Commission to take care of it – admitted the Royal President in an interview for TVP Sport.

Perhaps a precedent will be set. It is no secret that many professional sports clubs operate mainly thanks to money received from local governments. Therefore, there is an often unequal fight between state capital and private funds. In the case of Śląsk Wrocław, the scale is even larger because the city of Wrocław is the owner.

Additionally, the atmosphere around the rivalry between Silesia and Wisła is also heated by the fans of both teams. It is no secret that for many years these were groups that operated in concert, the so-called The Three Kings of Great Cities, together with Lechia Gdańsk. However, there was a split among the fans and now the Wrocław and Krakow camps – to put it mildly – do not like each other. Which further heats up the already hot atmosphere.

In the first match of both teams, at the end of August 2025, Wisła defeated Śląsk in Kraków 5-0. Currently, the Krakow team is the leader of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa team. The Wrocław team, as a relegated team from the elite, is in sixth position in the Betclic 1st League table.

UPDATE: On Wednesday afternoon, the Royal President announced via the X platform that Wisła Kraków will apply to the Polish Football Association to punish Śląsk Wrocław with a walkover.

This is a consequence of the information provided by TVP Sport journalist Mateusz Miga. In a conversation with the press spokesman of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Wrocław, he heard that the decision not to allow Wisła fans to enter the WKS stadium was arbitrarily made… by the Wrocław club.
