Mazowiecka wieś

It’s time to discover another underrated village of Masovia. Few people know, but there is a charming place near Sochaczew. It’s worth going on a trip there.

The village in question is called Stare Budy. We mean the one in the Młodzieszyn commune, located on the edge of the forest of the Radziwiłłów Forest District. Residents of Sochaczew are extremely close to the place – they can reach it by car in just 17 minutes. In turn, from Warsaw we can get there in about 1.5 hours. It is approximately 70 km from the city center.

An atmospheric place for a walk and a bicycle trip

Although the name Stare Budy may only be associated with dilapidated cottages, the village has something atmospheric about it. Today, it is officially inhabited by less than 300 people, and tourists do not visit it often. Nevertheless, it is worth visiting places such as: to take a walk through intimate, quiet streets, and in summer, ride a bike past fields and meadows. You should also visit the mentioned forest.

This Masovian village is unique because of its history. There are both interesting and tragic stories associated with it. Unfortunately, it has not been possible to determine the date of creation of this place to this day. Stare Budy was once partially inhabited by Dutch settlers, the so-called Olędrów – we are talking about the end of the 18th century. Already in 1827, there were 45 houses and 325 people living there, and in the following years the number of inhabitants increased. At the same time, there was another settlement there, the so-called budniks. It is even said that the name of the town comes from their name. Today, there is almost no trace of those settlements, although the village inhabitants are still called Budniki. Another interesting fact is that in the area there are, among others: war cemetery of soldiers killed in the Battle of Bzura.

A village that attracts mushroom pickers

As the village of Stare Budy is located right next to the forest, it is a real paradise for mushroom pickers. They will probably come to the place in spring to look for morels and even boletes. There are theories that some people even try to discover ancient hidden treasures there. Today, when you are in the area, you can admire the beauty of Budnica’s landscapes, learn about the local history and interesting stories about the inhabitants. It is also worth visiting the nearby village of Młodzieszyn, also known as the royal village. You can relax there, among others: by the pond next to the manor park.
