A shocking finale to the cycling competition. Two people are dead
Poland Bike Marathon announced on Facebook about the death of the second missing cyclist. “The search did not bring any successful results,” the competition organizers announced on Facebook.
In Marki (Masovia), PBM organized its next competition, addressed to mountain biking enthusiasts. The conditions were difficult – in Poland there is now oppressive heat (in the Lubusz region – in Słubice – a record was set – 40.5 degrees Celsius). Most of the participants reached the finish line safely, but a tragedy occurred along the way – two cyclists did not finish the route. It is not known why this happened – this is now being determined.
On Sunday (June 28), the organizers first announced the disappearance of a 71-year-old cyclist. They reported that a search operation had been organized (in which the police, fire brigade and emergency medical services were involved) and asked the participants to help find the elderly man. This senior was not just anyone – he had “multiple victories” under his belt – they noted. “It is possible that he left the route during the race. He was seen on the route at the 18-19th kilometer, i.e. about 10 km before the finish line,” they explained.

A day later (Monday – June 29) they announced that the search for the 71-year-old was still ongoing. “He was last seen approximately 700 m before the cycling town zone, i.e. approximately 1,600 m before the finish line,” they said.
Unfortunately, the action was suspended before noon. “It did not bring a happy result. The participant of our competition (…) is dead. We express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to his family and relatives. We would like to thank everyone involved for helping us in the search,” they concluded the post on FB.

This is not the only person who died during the competition.
“It is with great sadness that we inform you about the death of (…) cyclist Catena Wyszków, who participated in our competition today in Marki. We would like to express our great condolences to the cyclist’s family,” they said to the 30-year-old’s relatives.
RMF FM radio learned that law enforcement authorities took steps – the prosecutor’s office initiated two proceedings. “Investigators want to determine how the 30-year-old died and whether organizing the races in almost 40-degree heat did not create a threat to the participants,” the radio station said.
