A shelter in the Tatra Mountains, cut off from the world. “The packed lunch will last us for several months.”
Tourists are stuck in the Five Ponds Valley, but despite the circumstances, “everyone feels great.” The situation in the Tatra Mountains is dangerous.
Heavy snowfall caused the shelter in the Dolina Pięciu Stawów Valley, the highest located in Poland, to be cut off from the world. The shelter staff told Gazeta Krakowska that “there are currently five tourists staying there who have previously booked accommodation.” – No one is hurt, everyone feels great. They are happy to have some free time, the employees noted.
No one reported the need to return earlier. The shelter is prepared to be cut off from the world. – We have supplies, the packed lunch will last us for several months. This isn’t the first time this has happened. We are already accustomed to the fact that such situations can happen – emphasized the staff. A forester of the Tatra National Park from the Morskie Oko region commented that on Tuesday, at Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza, he met eight people who had come down from the Five Ponds Valley.
“It’s dangerous in the mountains right now.” The deputy head of TOPR warns against a critical situation
– It’s dangerous in the mountains right now. The snow is wet and heavy, explained Grzegorz Bryniarski. He is echoed by the deputy head of the Tatra Volunteer Emergency Service. – The problem will start when the sun comes out, the snow will be warmed and will gain even more weight. The snow will start to slide down to the bottom of the valleys on its own. The first sunny days will be critical, explained Mieczysław Ziach.
On Tuesday, TPN announced that “due to trees and branches breaking under the weight of snow, the entire area of the Tatra National Park is closed until further notice.” Currently, the fourth, high avalanche danger level is in force. It is recommended to refrain from any trips to high mountain areas. TOPR advises against all mountain activities.
