A revolution in airline ticket prices. Changes from January
From January 1, Poles will pay more for airline tickets. The changes result from a significant increase in the costs of using air control services.
Soon airlines will have to pay more to use the airspace over Poland. The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency is negotiating with carriers the new rates for air control services, which result from the high costs of training new employees in this sector. Higher rates for carriers are not good news for passengers, because additional costs will be passed on to them. Changes in the price list are to be effective from January 1, 2025.
Airline ticket prices are rising
Airline ticket prices, which were common a few years ago, are now considered promotions. In recent years, tourists have been attacked by further price increases, which have further convinced travelers to use tricks in search of attractive offers. Although most increases and tourism taxes are imposed on the airlines, it is the travelers who bear the final cost. This will also be the case with the latest price jump, which awaits us at the beginning of the new year. From January 1, 2025, Poland will experience changes that have never happened before.
Tickets with the most popular carriers are more expensive
Wizz Air, Ryanair, Enter Air, LOT and Lufthansa – these and other airlines will be obliged to pay up to twice as much fees for existing services in just a few months. All because of the need to train more air traffic control employees. The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency plans to spend approximately PLN 1.4 billion on the necessary courses as well as new investments in the period 2025–2029. Although the final cost of the rates will not be announced until November, it is already known that the increase will be noticeable. According to “Rzeczpospolita”, Wizz Air’s costs will increase from PLN 152.1 million to PLN 254.8 million, and LOT – from PLN 108 million to PLN 181.9 million. However, the biggest challenge awaits Ryanair, which will pay up to PLN 353 million (currently PLN 210 million). We can therefore expect that tourists will also experience a similar percentage increase.
