A recording of a falcon from Lublin is an Internet hit. “Wanda finally chilled out”
A recording of a falcon from Lublin is very popular on the Internet. Thanks to the camera, we managed to capture his unusual behavior.
The case concerns a peregrine falcon that was registered in its nest on the roof of the Wrotków heat and power plant in Lublin. A camera trap was placed there to record the behavior of birds of prey.
Currently, there is a pair of falcons Wanda and Czajnik and their three chicks – according to information provided to the website “Hawkeye” on Facebook and through the Wildlife Association “Falcon”.
In the recording from May 6, you can see Wanda staring straight at the camera for a long time, coming closer to the device and carefully observing it from all sides. The bird seemed very curious and then took care of the chicks.
“Wandzia has finally relaxed, she’s resting, she has time for herself. And she’s probably bored. From the series – eye to eye – Wandzia is figuring out the camera,” we read under the video.
Why was the falcon staring at the device?
According to ornithologists, the falcon could have been looking towards the camera because it was not a natural element of the surroundings. Therefore, it required additional checking, especially because there were chicks in the nest. Detailed checking of the surroundings is typical of predators and birds that guard their young.
The history of falcons in Lublin
Wildlife Association “Falcon” reports online about the life of peregrine falcons in Poland. Including, among others: those located in Lublin. According to the information provided, this bird was first spotted near a heat and power plant in Lublin in 2015.
“After quick consultations with a local ornithologist from LTO – Gerard Potakiewicz – and at his suggestion, on March 1, 2016, a nest for falcons was installed on the chimney”then, in 2019, a camera system was installed that allowed viewing the birds.
