A record year for the Polish city. Even Japanese come here

Toruń

The Polish city recorded a record number of tourists. Among foreign guests appeared, among others British, Germany and Japanese.

Foreign tourists appreciate Polish cities. Although Krakow, Gdańsk, Warsaw and Wrocław are still reigning among the most frequently chosen places on City Break, other centers also receive recognition. Increasingly, travelers pay attention to Łódź. Lublin and Toruń are also popular. According to the latest statistical data, the city associated with Mikołaj Kopernik has a record year behind it in terms of the number of visitors. Among them, apart from Poles, there are also Germans, British and even Japanese.

Toruń likes tourists

Although Toruń’s Poles do not need to be presented, reaching foreign tourists is not so obvious. There is no international airport in this city – the nearest one is located in Bydgoszcz, and the next in Gdańsk, Poznań or Warsaw, from where tourists have to get by train. Despite this, a city where Nicolaus Copernicus spent eighteen years of life does not complain about the lack of foreigners, although they constitute a much more modest part of visitors compared to native guests. The Tourist Information Center in Toruń reported that it was visited in 2024 by 2.5 million tourists, which means that the 2019 record, i.e. from the time before the pandemic, was finally balanced. People from abroad accounted for 5.9 percent of this number.

They visit Toruń

Three main nationalities visiting Toruń outside the Poles are Germany, the British and the Czechs. However, the next places brought more surprises. The Swedes and … Japanese were in the fourth position ex aequo. The fifth place was taken by Lithuanians, sixth Ukrainians, and the seventh French. There were also people from Spain, Scotland, Denmark, Hungary and Vietnam – in total they constituted below 2 percent of tourists from outside Poland. The growing number of tourists also include new challenges that the city will face. “It is, among others, to provide adequate infrastructure, in particular parking spaces and public toilets,” writes the information portal only Toruń.
