A record number of millionaires. Experts pointed out the main reason
The number of dollar millionaires is growing at a record pace. Experts indicate that stock markets, artificial intelligence and a weaker dollar are responsible for the boom.
In 2025, the number of dollar millionaires in the world increased at a record pace. The latest report by the Swiss bank UBS shows that global private wealth increased by 10.8%, which is much faster than in the two previous years. Experts indicate that such dynamic growth is primarily due to strong financial markets and the development of artificial intelligence.
The world’s millionaires are arriving at a record pace
According to the UBS report, private wealth increased by 10.8% in 2025. For comparison, a year earlier the increase was 4.6%, and in 2023 – 4.2%.
Such high dynamics resulted in the creation of almost a million new dollar millionaires. This means that there are more of them in the world now than ever before.
The artificial intelligence boom has fueled wealth growth
UBS economists indicate that one of the most important factors was a very good year on the stock markets. An additional impulse was the development of technologies related to artificial intelligence.
According to experts, the increase in valuations of companies benefiting from the AI boom has translated into an increase in the value of investors’ portfolios, especially in countries with developed capital markets.
The United States is the leader in growth
The United States had the largest share in the increase in the number of millionaires. This is where over 440,000 people joined the group of dollar millionaires during the year.
UBS also draws attention to the rapid growth of wealth in Europe. In this case, not only the increase in the value of assets was important, but also the weakening of the dollar against the euro, which influenced the valuation of assets in American currency.
Fortunes are rising, but so are inequalities
The authors of the report emphasize that the record increase in wealth does not mean an improvement in the situation of all households. According to UBS, wealth inequality has deepened, reaching its highest level since 2020.
Although average wealth has increased, median wealth has decreased in most of the countries analyzed. This means that the greatest benefits from the good economic situation went to the wealthiest, and the differences between the wealthiest and the rest of society have widened even further.
