A Polish talent from years past has passed away. “The world has lost a great man”
Filip Cybulski is dead. The Polish youth champion from years ago (pole vault) passed away at the age of only 31. The AKME Foundation announced his death.
Until 2013, Filip Cybulski was considered a natural athletic talent. His personal record in pole vaulting was a height of 5 meters, which qualified him for both the European Championships and the Youth World Championships.
He was a player of SL Olimpia Poznań.
Unfortunately, from a certain stage his sports career was a winding and difficult path. The athlete openly admitted that he struggles with bipolar disorder and addictions.
“In the fall of 2013, everything fell apart. The death of my grandmother, my brother’s cancer, problems with my girlfriend… It was then that Filip found out that his father had not died a natural death, but had committed suicide. He was struggling with bipolar disorder. Then in September, after all these traumatic experiences, this condition also began to manifest itself in Filip,” she wrote in “Przegląd Sportowy” Natalia Żaczek in the text about Cybulski’s history in November 2023.
Filip Cybulski is dead. A big blow to the sports community
The athlete never returned to jumping at the highest level in the country. Although he continued to practice sports, injuries ended his sports hopes, including: to start in the Olympic Games (2024).
In addition to sports challenges, Cybluski focused on work as a recovery assistant, helping people in mental crisis. He was a student of psychology and economics, and also studied at the School of Psychotherapy.
Unfortunately, the AKME Foundation announced Cybulski’s departure on Thursday (April 2) afternoon.
Today we learned about the passing of our friend and colleague. The world has lost a great man. Big literally and figuratively. Filip Cybulski was supportive, empathetic and smiling. At the AKME Foundation, Filip was responsible for the registration of our Drews Community Mental Health Center in Poznań, and later worked as a Recovery Assistant. He brought joy and peace to the facility we co-ran. He gave strength and hope to people in mental health crisis. He also provided assistance in recovery outside his activities at the AKME Foundation, both by conducting educational and advocacy activities in the area of mental health and physiotherapy. It is especially worth mentioning FIlip’s achievements in the world of sports – in the field of pole vaulting, he became the Junior Polish Champion at the age of 17. We are convinced that he achieved even more by supporting those who needed him the most. Filip, it’s hard for us to accept your departure. We thank You for everything You have given us and those we help. You were a wonderful and very inspiring person. We join Filip’s family and loved ones in grief – we read in a touching post on Facebook.
