Fabryka Cukry Nyskie, despite huge losses caused by the flood, has provided its employees with full remuneration and is fighting to resume production as soon as possible.

The flood that swept through Nysa dealt a serious blow to the local Cukry Nyskie Work Cooperative, the manufacturer of popular sweets such as “Nyskie”, “Chrups” and “Deserro”. The plant was flooded and losses are estimated at PLN 4 million. Despite serious damage to the machines and the need to stop production, the company’s president, Andrzej Chomyszczak, assured that all employees will receive full remuneration.

The plant is in ruins after the flood

The flood caused enormous damage to the factory, destroying key production equipment. Water flooded the production hall to a height of 10 cm, and in the boiler room it reached a level of 3 meters, damaging furnaces necessary for further operations. Additionally, water in the basements destroyed, among others, specialized machines for the production of packaging, each worth almost EUR 100,000.

The plant is not only faced with material losses. For many workers, who number around 200, the situation is doubly difficult because their homes were also flooded. The president emphasized that this is a tragedy for many families, including those where spouses and their children are employed in the cooperative.

Attempts to protect the factory against the inflow of water had been going on since Saturday. However, despite efforts – including delivering just 10 sandbags – water eventually entered the plant, causing major damage. President Chomyszczak noted that although they were waiting in line for the water to be pumped out, no one cared about the situation of their company. Help came only from private individuals, entrepreneurs and employees themselves who spontaneously began to act.

To restore the plant to full operation, the cooperative started collecting money. Additionally, the company is counting on support from the government and compensation from the insurer. Ordering parties, including retail chains such as Lidl and Kaufland, waived contractual penalties for delivery delays, and some companies, such as Dino, even made advance payments to help the company survive this difficult time.

– The biggest challenge remains the repair of the boiler room, without which we cannot resume production – says the president. The process of rebuilding the plant also includes thorough disinfection and washing of the entire infrastructure.
