A Polish airport is looking for volunteer passengers. The interest exceeded expectations

A large Polish airport will soon open a completely new zone for passengers. Tests for those interested will start at the end of April.

A completely new waiting room for passengers will be built at the Krakow airport, which will ease traffic in the crowded terminal. The zone will be located in the part of the airport formerly intended for cargo traffic, and the first tests will start at the end of this month. Last week, the Balice airport started looking for volunteer passengers who would agree to test the Pre-Boarding Zone. The interest was huge.

A new zone is starting at the Krakow airport

The second largest airport in Poland in terms of the number of passengers served is increasingly facing limited space. To meet the expectations of travelers, it is necessary to expand the terminal. In Balice, in the former cargo building, a two-level Pre-Boarding Zone (PBZ) intended for people traveling outside Schengen will soon appear. The passenger terminal will be expanded by six additional gates on the ground and first floors, and there will also be 440 square meters of commercial space with a catering zone.

Interestingly, according to the original plans, the former cargo building was to be demolished during the first stage of the expansion of the passenger terminal. “After the renovation team entered the former cargo warehouse and demolished the partition walls, we saw what a nice, large space it could be developed. We really like it visually, even if it is a temporary solution. It will serve passengers well for several years,” Monika Chylaszek told “Wprost”. The existing terminal and the PBZ are connected by a batten, enabling easy passage.

Become a passenger. They were looking for testers in Krakow

Before the Pre-Boarding Zone starts (it will happen during the May long weekend), special tests will be carried out. According to TVP Kraków, the dress rehearsal will take place on the night of April 28-29, from 22:00 to 02:00. Volunteers will take on the role of real passengers and test the flow of people and the functioning of gates in conditions similar to natural ones.

To take part in the tests, you must be an adult and have a valid ID document. However, the places for those interested filled up quickly. Already on April 11, shortly after opening the form, a message about the limit being exhausted appeared on the airport’s website.
