A plane carrying nine people crashed Thursday near the Thai capital, Bangkok. There were children on board.

The crash occurred Thursday in the jungle. The chartered Cessna Caravan C2088 flew from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport to the city of Trat on the Cambodian border shortly before 3 p.m. local time.

He lost contact with ground crews about ten minutes into the flight. He was about 35 kilometers southeast of the airport over Chachoengsao Province, an area known for its dense mangrove swamps.

Thailand Plane Crash: Residents Talk Moments Before Accident

Residents in the province described seeing the plane fall from the sky and “explode loudly” upon impact, with debris damaging nearby homes.

“I was sitting in front of my house. The plane flew over my house, making loud engine noises. Just a few seconds later, it crashed right here with a huge crash,” one resident told officials in a video released by the provincial government.

The plane was carrying four Thais and five Chinese, including two children aged 12 and 13. Videos and photos from the scene of the accident have appeared online.

Work on site is hampered by difficult weather conditions.

Rescue services sent to the scene struggled with difficult conditions due to the previously mentioned swampy terrain. After an hour, the wreck was located, as well as body parts, which were taken to hospital for identification. Further work at the crash site is not facilitated by the weather.

“The search for the missing passengers is ongoing, but we believe all of them are dead,” said Chachoengsao Province Governor Chonlatee Yangtrong.

The cause of the crash remains unclear. The plane did not have a black box. It communicated directly with air traffic control – we read on CNN.
