A permanent US base in Poland is getting closer? Kosiniak-Kamysz revealed the details of the talks
Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the United States is open to establishing a permanent US military base in Poland.
The United States responded positively to the Polish proposal to establish a permanent US military base on the territory of our country. The information was provided by Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz after meeting with American Secretary of War Pete Hegseth during talks in Brussels.
The head of the Ministry of National Defense announced that he had received an official response to the letter sent at the end of May, in which Poland declared its readiness to create permanent infrastructure for the American armed forces.
– The United States positively responds to Poland’s proposal to establish a permanent US military base on the territory of our homeland – said Kosiniak-Kamysz.
There is no decision regarding the base yet, but the signal from the US is clear
The minister emphasized that no formal decisions have been made at this stage. The talks are to be continued, and the final decisions will depend on further arrangements between Warsaw and Washington.
According to the head of the Ministry of National Defense, the positive position of the American side can be treated as an important signal regarding the future of military cooperation between the two countries. Poland has been trying to increase the presence of American soldiers on its territory for years, justifying it with the security situation in the region and the war in Ukraine.
US troops have been in Poland for years
American soldiers are already stationed in Poland, but their presence is mainly based on a rotation system. There are numerous elements of military infrastructure used by US forces in the country, and the size of the contingent is regularly adjusted to NATO’s needs.
Creating a permanent military base would mean another step in the development of Polish-American defense cooperation. The topic was one of the points of discussion during the meeting of NATO defense ministers before the July summit of the Alliance in Ankara.
The Polish authorities emphasize that the issues of security and the presence of allied troops remain one of the most important elements of the country’s defense strategy.
