Thanks to her, the Egyptian Holiday Resort Sharm El-Saczyk will be combined with the picturesque sandy promontory of Ras Hamid in Saudi Arabia. The governments of both countries have already announced the finalization of the bridge construction project.
“We have completed the planning of the bridge between Egypt and Saudi Arabia and we are ready to implement at any time, whether in the form of a bridge or tunnel,” announced the Egyptian minister of transport Kamel Al-Wazir during an economic conference organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt.
The bridge will connect Egypt and Saudi Arabia
It is not only about the connection of two countries, but also two continents – Africa and Asia. The bridge will run through the Red Sea famous for its very rich and diverse ecosystem. The first design plans were already analyzed in 1988, but were suspended due to political tensions prevailing in the region.
Further ideas were announced in 2016. Then the King of Saudi Arabia Salman Ibn Abd al-Aziza spoke about them. He assured that his country would fully finance all work.
After years, the plans will finally come to fruition, and work can start at any time. The new bridge is to have a positive impact on tourism, enabling travel to over millions of people a year. A more convenient and cheaper pilgrimage route to Mecca will be of particular importance. They are also to improve, among others Logistics and trade in the region.
This is a expensive project
The construction of the bridge is to cost four billion dollars. The investor is to be Saudi Arabia, and the project itself will complement the construction of the controversial megametropoli Neom-a futuristic city emerging in the northwestern part of the country, just on the Red Sea.
Until the work between Egypt and Saudi Arabia is completed, you will still need to use maritime transport. It is managed by Arab Bridge Maritime Company, which supports the fleet of 13 freight and passenger ships.
The new bridge will stretch over the Tiran Strait, ran through the island of Tiran – a strategically located in the Tirańska Strait, at the entrance to the Bay of Akaba. The project causes a sense of pride among both the authorities and the inhabitants of both countries. Its part of it is also to be the construction of high -speed railway line, which would transport goods between Africa and Asia.
