A new world record was broken? A fishing legend did the impossible
The fisherman, considered by the community to be a true legend of this discipline, went to Minnesota to catch a “real monster” in the state – reports the editors of the American magazine “Outdoor Life”. He succeeded.
The hunt for muskellunge – a species of predatory freshwater fish from the pike family that naturally occurs in North America – began last week, on Tuesday. On October 29, before midnight, after 10,000 casts, Art Weston, in the presence of his companion and guide – Nolan Sprengeler – caught a gigantic specimen.
How much did he measure?
“It was like a truck took my bait.”
Weston’s “Muskie” (Esox masquinongy) was a whopping 57.5 inches long (or just over 146 centimeters). The fish was swimming in Lake Mille Lacs (central part of the state). There is a good chance that the enthusiast broke the previous record in the “all tackle length” category, which takes into account the dimensions of the fish, specifically: length.
At one point, the specimen “hit the bait 30 meters from the boat.” – It was as if a Mack truck (Trucks – an American automotive company – ed.) took my bait and headed in the opposite direction – explains the probable record holder.
Why did men go after pike at night? Because it is at this time that the chance of catching a muskie is the highest. During the day, these fish are very cautious and avoid various types of bait. The fight lasted about 30-60 seconds.
Esox masquinongy was, of course, measured and then photographed on the boat so that – in accordance with the guidelines of the International Game Fish Association – the fish would not suffer unnecessarily when being pulled ashore. Shortly thereafter, the men restored her freedom – the muskie returned to Mille Lacs. Weston admitted he had never tried night fishing before. – Crazy experience. Throwing these huge baits into the darkness and the depths was a bit nerve-wracking, he says, quoted by an American magazine. If the record is approved, it will be his 79th such achievement in his life.
“OL” reminds that this fish is one of the most desirable in the fishing world today. Many people want to catch trophy-sized muskies.
Zielonka. A Polish angler caught a huge pike
When describing the extraordinary struggles of an American angler with the muskie, it is also worth appreciating our compatriots. A resident of the town of Zielonka near Warsaw caught a large pike in the area of Glinianki. The fight lasted only 20 minutes.
The matter was publicized by the Fishing News website.
