A new wave of fraud. You can lose your savings by one SMS

Erste Group przejmuje Santander Bank Polska

Santander warns against false SMSs. Customers may fall victim to fraud related to the alleged loss of account access.

Santander Bank customers receive disturbing SMS messages informing about the alleged expiry of registration. The content shows that the lack of reaction threatens to block access to online banking. The case looks urgent and serious, which can lead many people to quickly act.

Suspicious page

The message also sends a link to the page, which – according to the sender – enables data update. Unfortunately, this is a classic example of fraud. After clicking, the user is redirected to a false website, deceptively similar to the original bank’s website. There, the victim is asked to provide login data and an SMS code, which may result in the acquisition of the account and the loss of funds.

Santander Bank immediately reacted to these activities of criminals, publishing a warning in social media. It was emphasized that the bank never asks customers for login details, card numbers or authorization codes via SMS or e-mail.

The official announcement indicates that customers who receive a suspicious message should not click on any links. It is recommended that login to the account takes place only through the official website of the bank or its mobile application. In case of doubt, it’s best to contact the hotline directly or go to the ward.

Appeal for vigilance

The bank calls for caution and vigilance. Most fraudsters contains typos, language errors or unusual phrases, which can be a warning signal. Criminals use rush and lack of prudence, which is why it is so important not to react impulsively to messages about the alleged account lock.

The last fraudsters’ campaign of this type was revealed by Santander on April 24, but the phenomenon does not stop. The bank systematically reminds clients about the principles of safe use of online banking and informs about new threats.
