A new spot promoting Poland abroad. This is how tourists from other countries will see us
This is how our country will be seen by, among others, British, Germans and Italians. Polish athletes took part in the “POLSKA. More than you think.”
The Ministry of Sports and Tourism managed by Sławomir Nitras and the Polish Tourist Organization have launched a campaign to promote our country among foreign guests. At first glance, it is clear that the dynamic clip is addressed to young people, because the conversation takes place via instant messenger. In the film we see Cristiano asking two Polish athletes – multiple world championship medalist, cyclist Katarzyna Niewiadoma and NBA basketball player Jeremy Sochan – what is worth seeing in Poland.
Spot promoting Poland. Sea, mountains, big cities
What locations has the Polish ministry chosen? It starts with the most general recommendations – Jeremy Sochan recommends the sea (specifically Cypel Rewski), and Katarzyna Niewiadoma recommends the mountains. The basketball player recommends active recreation at a large music festival, and the cyclist recommends relaxing in nature.
The next scene presented the “energy of cities”. In the film we see the top destination – Krakow (the city is already struggling with excessive tourism), and then picturesque drone shots of a footbridge in Warsaw and evening Gdańsk, with a carousel similar to the one at Trocadero Square in Paris. And this time the cyclist is opting for a quieter rest.
“Come on, you don’t agree on anything!” – finally says a film tourist planning to come to Poland. The bottom line is that athletes agree on the attractiveness of our country in the eyes of foreign tourists. The slogan of the campaign is “POLAND. More than you think.”
Racist entries after the publication of the film
Since Thursday, the Internet has become loud not because of the content of the clip, but because of Jeremy Sochan’s invitation to it. The far-right journalist Tomasz Sommer attacked the Ministry of Sport for choosing “a black man with a tarantula on his head and a blonde” for the clip, and other commentators echoed him. Jeremy Sochan has dual citizenship, his mother is Polish and his father was African-American. The basketball player was unfazed and reacted to the entry without a trace of aggression.
It is known that the film will be seen by audiences in Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Austria, Sweden and Hungary. Earlier this year, the Polish Tourist Organization promoted Poland in Paris as the next travel stop.
What do you think about this spot? Will it encourage guests from abroad to visit Poland?
