Polish tourists going to Egypt most often decide to spend their holidays on the Red Sea. This is where the most famous resorts, such as Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh and Marsa Alam, are located. These places are especially popular in winter, where guests can expect higher temperatures than on the Mediterranean Sea. Soon, the northern coast of the Land of the Pharaohs may once again win the hearts of foreign travelers. All thanks to the new luxury center that is currently being built on the outskirts of Alexandria.
A new resort in Egypt for luxury lovers
Egypt’s most popular Red Sea resorts will soon have a worthy competitor. The village of Ras El Hekma, located on the Mediterranean coast about halfway from Alexandria towards Libya, will change beyond recognition in just a few years. This is where the city of the future funded by the United Arab Emirates will be built, with skyscrapers, an international airport connecting the resort with Europe and the Middle East, and luxury resorts. The city located in a picturesque bay will eventually be almost twice the size of Barcelona in Catalonia. “The project implemented by ADQ, an investment and holding company based in Abu Dhabi, aims to revitalize the Egyptian economy with an amount of $25 billion per year,” The Independent reported. The establishment of the center is also in line with the latest tourist trends, which predict that as climate changes continue, tourists will increasingly choose colder places – and in the case of Egypt, the Mediterranean coast is one of them.
It’s more than just a resort
Construction work on the project began on October 4. “The first phase of the investment will include an international airport and a high-speed rail line that will connect residential areas, office space, hotel, commercial, recreational and leisure facilities,” we read. As the “city of the future”, Ras El Hekma will provide not only entertainment for tourists, but also housing for over 2 million people. This is not the only new city that will be built in this desert country in the coming years. To meet the needs of the inhabitants of overpopulated Cairo, Egypt will also build a new capital.
