A new attraction at an important castle in Poland. Tourists will enter for free
Residents of Greater Poland and tourists have gained a new attraction. You can admire the surroundings free of charge from the castle’s observation deck.
The Castle in Koło is a medieval stronghold from the 14th century, probably built on order of King Casimir the Great. It is picturesquely located on an artificial hill in the bend of the Warta River. The stronghold’s heyday was in the 15th century. The kings of Poland, Władysław Jagiełło and Casimir Jagiellończyk, visited here many times. As the threat from the Teutonic Knights decreased, the castle’s military function lost its importance, and the Swedish Deluge brought an end to the splendor of the Koło stronghold. The seventeen-meter high main tower and fragments of the walls have survived to this day. Only the foundations and the lowest parts remained of the oldest part of the building, the keep (residential and defensive tower).

In recent years, the building has been reconstructed – an important task was to strengthen and protect the lonely northern wall against collapse. As a result of conservation works, the attraction regained its splendor.
On July 10, a new observation deck was opened at the top of the castle tower. A spiral staircase leads upstairs. The investment was carried out as part of the development of the local tourist offer. After dark, the ruins are illuminated.
Opening hours
The attraction is available from May 1 to September 30, every day from 11.00 to 20.00. A maximum of 10 people can be on the stairs and terrace at the same time, for a maximum of 20 minutes. Children up to 16 years of age may climb the mountain only under adult supervision. The visit is free of charge, but drinking alcohol, smoking, littering and destroying the facility is prohibited in the tower. The facility is monitored.
You cannot climb the mountain during a storm, strong wind, icy conditions or other dangerous weather conditions.
The castle is located about 1.5 hours by car from Poznań. Residents of Łódź will be even closer to it – they will be able to get there in just over an hour.
