Sad news from the volleyball world. Witold Szewczyk, a four -time Polish champion with Resovia Rzeszów, died. This is one of the members of “Golden Resovia” from years ago.

It is worth recalling that the volleyball Resovia in the 1970s was a real power. Rzeszów residents won, among others Four Polish championships, winning in the years 1971, 1972, 1974 and 1975. It wasn’t until the 21st century that the Rzeszów club again reached for the title of the best team in the country, winning in 2012. In total, Resovia has seven MP gold medals, the last one won evenly before ten years (2015).

Sad news came on Monday, through social media.

“More members of the Golden Resovia are going away … Yesterday Witold Szewczyk died, who in the colors of CWKS Resovia won, among others 4 times the title of Polish champion. Funeral Witold Szewczyk will take place on Thursday, 9/01/2025 at 13.30 at the Wilkowyja municipal cemetery ” – it was written on the profile of the Resovia Museum on Facebook on Monday (i.e. January 6) afternoon.

The period of Szewczyk’s performances, in the context of Four Polish Championships, was for the previously mentioned time when the Rzeszów team was called “double short masters”. The builders of these achievements were coaches Jan Strzelczyk and Władysław Pałaszewski. We said goodbye to the latter in 2024.

Witold Szewczyk was born in 1945, he played in Resovia as the quarterback. In addition to four championship titles, for seven seasons of the game for the Rzeszów club, the former volleyball player also won the silver and bronze MP and the Polish Cup (1975). In addition, the Silver of the Champions Cup (1973) and Bronze PZP (1974).
