A mistake during the coverage of the opening of the Games. Przemysław Babiarz did not know what he was commenting on

During the broadcast of the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris, an unexpected situation occurred. The commentators had problems.

For months, France has been preparing to host the Olympic Games, which have just begun. Although the first competitions will take place on Saturday, July 27, a spectacular opening gala took place in Paris the day before. During it, there were some problems.

Problems during the broadcast of the games

The official opening of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics took place on Friday evening, July 26. This is the third Olympics held in the French capital. The oldest and most important sports festival has returned to the city after more than 100 years – the previous games were held there in 1924.

The grand opening ceremony of the games began at 7:30 p.m. and lasted about 180 minutes. It was watched live in various locations by over 300,000 spectators, while – according to estimates – as many as 1.5 billion people could have sat in front of their televisions. They watched, among other things, the national committees sailing a six-kilometer stretch of the Seine on 115 boats.

It is known that in Poland the broadcast of the opening ceremony was broadcast on Polish Television and online on the TVP and TVP VOD portals. Przemysław Babiarz and Jarosław Idzi commented on the entire event for viewers. At some point, however, they were thrown out of rhythm.

It turned out that the image suddenly disappeared from their screens, which left the journalists completely unaware of what was happening in Paris and what stations around the world were showing. – Just so you are aware, we still don’t see anything, we are guided by what we hear – informed Przemysław Babiarz.

Fortunately, both of them, guided by their vast experience, did not lose their cool. They kept on regaling viewers with anecdotes and historical curiosities, although – as Babiarz reminded them from time to time – they did not see the screen at all. Fortunately, after a while, the failure passed and the journalists did not have to comment “blindly”.
