A magical view in the Tatra Mountains. There was a winter climate in the mountains

Śnieg na Kasprowym Wierchu

It suddenly became white in the Tatra Mountains. Snow covered the trails and chamois began to go for walks. The magical view delights, but also portends danger.

We have known for a long time that snow appears faster in the Polish mountains than in other parts of the country, and it usually stays on the trails for a long time, sometimes almost all year round. Although some people are just getting used to the end of summer, the Tatra Mountains reminded us that winter is just around the corner.

Snow fell in the Tatra Mountains

We learn, among other things, that snow has fallen in the Tatra Mountains. thanks to photos and recordings posted on social media. The Tatra National Park and Mr. Bartłomiej Jurecki also informed about the situation. Sudden rainfall was noticed on Sunday, September 29. It became frosty, white and at the same time less safe.

“There is ice on the trails, additionally covered with a fresh layer of snow. We advise against going to the higher parts of the mountains, the conditions there are very difficult for tourism,” we read in one of the Facebook messages posted by foresters. Although the white trails look beautiful and tempting, you should be especially careful.

It was extremely frosty on Kasprowy Wierch. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management reported that there was a two-centimeter layer of white fluff there, and the temperature at the top dropped to -2 degrees Celsius. This situation occurred for the first time this season.

Anyone who wants to enjoy the charm of the mountains at this time must remember that you should not go anywhere without specialized clothing, crampons or ice axes. All this is most important in expeditions to high mountain ranges. Please note that the snowfall limit begins above 1,600 meters above sea level. An additional difficulty is the low cloud ceiling, which limits visibility and makes orientation in the field difficult, which may result in getting lost. Strong winds also make it difficult to traverse the trails.

Chamois delight on the trails

A beautiful view in the Tatra Mountains is provided not only by snow-covered paths, but also by chamois. These eagerly take advantage of the frosty climate. Some tourists managed to immortalize them in photos. “Beauties” – Mr. Bartłomiej Jurecki signs his post with a photo of animals. In one of the Facebook posts we see a lot of horned and happy chamois grazing along the white trails.

Even though the snow layer is thin for now, it is still impressive. We can also admire beautiful views in other recordings. We see snow-covered rocks and grass, and we can hear the ground creaking under our feet. Visibility at the site is hampered by fog.
