A magical spectacle seen from the plane. The sky was shimmers with colors
Not every plane journey runs simply. Sometimes there are unexpected problems or turbulence, at other times it is above average pleasant. Travelers heading from New York to San Francisco have good memories of the flight.
At the first eye one might think that the incident occurred in Scandinavia, but this time in the United States tourists were lucky. Last Monday, September 15, passengers flying from New York to San Francisco saw the northern lights from the window. She spread from a distance in a dark sky. They were not microscopic streams of light, but a sky spectacle in all its glory. One of the travelers captured the phenomenon in the film and photos.
Aurora polar seen from the plane
Keagan Wernicke was a lucky passenger who recorded the northern lights during the flight. “Always look through the windows of the aircraft,” he wrote on his social media profile. In his photos you can see the green-purple sky, as well as a illuminated city emerging from the dark. The color performance stayed on the passenger horizon for a long time.
“Views have been going on for 30 minutes. I am incredibly happy,” commented the tourist, emphasizing that he had the opportunity to experience an amazing moment.
To be able to watch a “light spectacle” from a height of several thousand meters, there must be favorable conditions. It is a completely dark sky, but also a flight route that runs over the area of aurora activity. This time it all went hand in hand.
Was it predictable?
In the USA, such shows can often be counted on Alaska, located within the aurora oval. However, it turns out that not only there we will see the magical colors of the sky. In the past days of September, it was forecast over part of North America in advance. The Space weather forecast center (SWPC) Noaa has issued a warning against a geomagnetic storm, because it was forecast to reach charged solar wind particles to the ground.
The aurora is the so -called Aurora, just arising as a result of collisions of charged particles derived from the sun (solar wind) with gas atoms in the earthly atmosphere. This was also the case this time, it was caused by the increased solar wind from the crown hole, the dark area of the sun visible in the satellite pictures.
The aurora could be seen from places with a dark sky in the northern part of the United States, including in the Middle West, in the Great Lakes region and in the north -east.
