A magical place for Polish volleyball. The Baltic aura does its job!
It is said about the Katowice saucer that it is “a mecca of Polish volleyball”. Looking at history, it’s hard to deny it, but the Tri -City Ergo Arena also has its advantages.
As is usually the case with this type of comparisons, the point of view depends on the point of sitting. Fans from the Tri -City will probably look with a greater smile towards the arena, which was founded in 2011, just on the border of Gdańsk and Sopot. What’s more, her neighborhood with the Baltic Sea is less than a kilometer. And as if it is close to the sea, it immediately looks at the whole, especially in the summer.
A unique place for Polish volleyball. Baltic at your fingertips
On a daily basis, in terms of volleyball, the facility is the Trefl Gdańsk in PlusLiga. Interestingly, in recent years a lot of large characters related to Polish volleyball have passed through the club.
It was in the Tri -City that Mariusz Wlazły ended his career or last season (i.e. 2024/25) Jakub Jarosz. Here, too, Michał Winiarski, who began his coaching career – as a “one” – as a “one” – as a “one” – as a “one”.
What’s more, it was in Ergo Arena that the Polish national team reached for considerable success, and important events took place.
The biggest was VNL 2023 gold, the first in history for Polish volleyball players – after prior success in the “Elder Sister” competition, the World League from 2012.

– I think that Gdańsk himself, the whole Tri -City – these are places where many of us like to be. Because of the Baltic, this special microclimate. Even the sun appeared, well, let it stay as long as possible (laughs). We like to be here. Ergo Arena is also a very pleasant gaming hall. In addition, playing here we always have white and red stands filled with fans. This is an additional factor that the game is good here. I think that these memories of the VNL win two years ago also strengthen these positive feelings. We are very happy that we will play the tournament in Ergo Arena once again. This is a special place – he admitted in an interview for “Wprost” before the unfortunate injury accepting the national team.
Wilfredo Leon spoke in a similar tone during the league season. The leader of the national team came to Ergo Arena as a young boy, representing Kuba’s colors. Here, too, he met his future wife Małgorzata, during the World League final in 2011. And finally 2019 and the first serious challenge of Leon in Polish colors, namely the qualifying tournament in the Tokyo Games won in the reins. What to hide, the volleyball player in Ergo Arena feels extremely good.

Ergo Arena for volleyball is an amazing place. You can see immediately that it is enough to go out onto the pitch and everyone feels a little better at the start. A little worse that it is good to play not only the team in which I am, but also opponents.
So what, the effect of a neighboring Baltic! Maybe through the sea?
I wouldn’t rule it out at all! This is a really nice object. There is no problem with the lights, the tribune is neither too far nor too close. Frekwently is also perfect, over 10,000 capacities, optimally for large volleyball events.
It is also impossible to forget, there was the first step I took in Poland.
Therefore, regardless of Spodek’s magic Katowice, you have to give Ergo Arena that he has something unique. And people who often come straight from the beach to the national team match, are happy that they are here. Creating a unique atmosphere in the stands.
VNL 2025 tournament in Ergo Arena. When and with whom will Polish volleyball players play?
The Polish national team in Ergo Arena will play two more matches.
On Saturday (i.e. July 19) he will face Bulgaria (17:00), and on Sunday, to close the struggle in the Tri -City, a clash with Olympic champions – French (20:30). In the latter case, it will be a kind of rematch for the IO 2024 final, maintaining all proportions of the seriousness of the League of Nations.
