A huge trout grabbed the hook and the rod shook. There is a new record
A 12-year-old fishing enthusiast caught a record trout. She broke the record previously set by her 15-year-old sister.
The girl and her father went to Lake Górna (one of the five so-called Great Lakes of North America). With a fishing rod in her hand, she sat down on the northern shore of the reservoir and waited for a big fish.
A young resident of Maple Grove (Minnesota) hoped that a record-breaking rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) would catch the bait she placed on the hook – and that’s exactly what happened. It is worth saying that she wanted it because a year ago a huge specimen from the salmon family (Salmonidae) was caught by her (then) 14-year-old sister – Lucy Spatafore. “We had a little competition about who could catch the biggest one,” she admitted (quote from MPR News).
A new record was broken. That’s how long the giant trout measured
Sadie Spatafore set out on her expedition in May 2026. When the giant trout first emerged from the water, she knew it was “a really big one.”
How long was it? “It measured 76 cm, which was just over an inch (or about two and a half centimeters – editor’s note) longer than the fish that Lucy pulled out of the water in 2025. (…)
Sadie thus set a new Minnesota state record in the Catch and Release category,” the editorial staff of a foreign portal reported.

On this occasion, it is worth mentioning the records that were set in the United States, but no US resident has been able to break them so far, even though decades have passed since they were set.
