A huge tragedy in the world of sport. The Pole took his life

Tomasz Jędrzejak left August 14, 2018. These were extremely tragic news for the world of slag. “Cucumber”, as Jędrzejak was called, was very popular and respected by fans. Unfortunately, seven years ago, the 39 -year -old player took his life.

In 2012, Jędrzejak reached for the sensational, individual Polish championship, playing the competition at the track in Zielona Góra. Although he came from Ostrów Wielkopolski, he had the most in common with speedway Wrocław. He rode first for Atlas Wrocław (2002-03 and 2007-08), and then in the colors of Betard Sparta Wrocław (2011-17) being her captain.

The last Jędrzejak club was Stal Rzeszów. The speedway rider parting with Wrocław, but ultimately – contrary to the expectations of Ostrów fans – he focused on riding in the capital of Podkarpacie. This caused that Jędrzejak’s considerable grievances, an online hate from fans in Ostrów.

In addition, there was no new, Rzeszów reality. After years spent in Wrocław, Jędrzejak could not quite find himself in the new realities. Financial problems appeared, “cucumbers” had often sad eyes at that time, which after a while those who had contact with him talked with him.

Although Jędrzejak was a tough guy, depression turned out to be the cause of a gigantic tragedy. The speedway rolled up at his life.

– After years, it can be said that depression was the cause of this tragedy. You can combine some facts that I would absolutely not say that these may be symptoms of the disease. For me, Tomek was a tough guy, even a hero. Whatever happened, I thought he would manage, that he would come out of every problems (…) we talked about everything, and with the disease he could hide until the very end. He probably didn’t want to worry me. After the time I began to associate that he was sending me signals, that maybe he wanted to tell me something, but in my life I did not expect something like that – said Karolina Jędrzejak for WP/SportoweFakty.

Speedway fans remember their idol. At the stadium in Wrocław, where Betard Sparta speedway riders rode and still ride, even a special monument to the memory of “Cucumber” appeared. A special plaque also appeared in the hometown of Ostrów in the wall of the main stadium. The speedway world remembers Tomasz Jędrzejak.
