The football match was played as part of a tournament in honor of Guinean military leader Mamadi Doumbouya. This was the final match between Labe and Nzerekore, in the city of Nzerekore, the largest in the southern part of Guinea.

“A coalition of political parties known as the National Alliance said in a statement that the stampede had caused dozens of deaths and injuries. Local media reported that security forces tried to use tear gas to restore calm after the chaos that followed the disputed criminal case (…) Among the victims are children, and some of the wounded, who are being treated at a regional hospital, are in a critical condition,” she wrote in Monday’s dispatch from The Associated Press.
Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah said that “casualties have been recorded”, but did not provide specific numbers as to the balance. Unfortunately, it is getting bigger, the more messages – most often from reliable sources – appear on the Internet.
After the controversial referee’s decision, the fans were supposed to first run onto the pitch and then start running away from the facility in panic. It was this crush and the fact that not everyone managed to jump over the fence that caused the tragedy. The services were unable to control the huge crowd.
According to unofficial news, there is no place left for the injured in local hospitals, the scale of the tragedy is so great.
