A huge storm after the ban on the flag about Volhynia. “We cannot be patriots”

Flaga kibiców Legii Warszawa

The situation that took place before the match between Shakhtar Donetsk and Legia Warszawa continues to be echoed. Polish fans originally did not enter the stadium stands.

Reason? Legia Warszawa fans appeared in Krakow, where Shakhtar Donets plays their matches, and wanted to enter the Wisła stadium with a banner reading “We remember Volhynia”. Shakhtar’s head of security, a Ukrainian, did not agree to raise this flag, and the decision of the Warsaw team’s fans was clear – the Poles decided not to enter the stands.

The “We remember Volhynia” flag is banned. Insults in the stadium stands

Ultimately, no Legia fans appeared in the visitors’ stand for the first 20-30 minutes. There were only fans who had already been inside before the flag commotion.

Ukrainians can be nationalists, and we can be nationalists at home! – can’t we be patriots, remembering the victims in Volhynia?!? “A nation that does not respect its past does not deserve respect for the present and has no right to the future” – this is the truth of Marshal Józef Piłsudski – wrote Roman Kołtoń on the X platform.

However, there is no shortage of emotions. The decision not to raise the flag regarding Volhynia provokes extreme opinions. It should be remembered that Shakhtar’s security chief is also guided by the guidelines imposed by UEFA in advance. And it is the Ukrainian side, after all, not the Polish one – that is the host team in the UEFA Conference League when Shakhtar plays its matches.

After 30 minutes, Legia fans appeared in the guest sector and started chanting vulgar slogans.

The atmosphere in the stands of the Wisła Kraków stadium is hot. In the match itself, Legia is doing surprisingly well, at least in the first 45 minutes. A beautiful goal was scored by Rafał Augustyniak, today’s captain of Legia, who shot from a distance and scored a truly unique goal.

UPDATE: The situation regarding the flag in question began to change from minute to minute. According to Szymon Janczyk from weszlo.com, after the intervention of Wisła Kraków representatives, Legia fans were finally able to hang out the flag regarding Volhynia.

And that’s what actually happened.

After a few more minutes of the second 45 minutes, the flags were taken down again.
