A hero who will be the future of the Polish national team? ZAKSA takes comfort from him
ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle won a valuable 3-0 victory in Częstochowa. One of those who outplayed Steam Hemarpol Norwid was center Karol Urbanowicz.
ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle started the rematch round of the regular phase with a false start. Bartosz Kurek and company were briefly “explained” by PGE Projekt Warszawa, losing on home soil in three sets.
PlusLiga: Karol Urbanowicz with the MVP award, ZAKSA with full points
Therefore, ZAKSA had a lot of sports anger, which it released in the next series of games. On Friday (December 20), in what promised to be a blockbuster match, the club from Kędzierzyn-Koźle had something to prove to the team from Częstochowa. Steam Hemarpol Norwid is doing very well this season. However, at Jasna Góra it turned out that the hosts did not have much to say in the match against ZAKSA.
Karol Urbanowicz was chosen MVP of the match. The center scored ten points – four of which were with service aces. Urbanowicz is a 23-year-old volleyball player who moved outside his hometown of Gdańsk for the first time in his career. ZAKSA chose the former Polish representative, and step by step he is trying to repay the trust in Kędzierzyn-Koźle.
– After the lost match against Warsaw, we felt very strongly that during training immediately after the match we actually wanted to play this match again. But you know, it’s not possible. We wanted to translate our sports anger into training and simply build our self-confidence through it. To show at the next match in Częstochowa that hard work in training pays off. We really wanted to take revenge for the lost match against PGE Projekt by winning against Norwid – admitted the MVP of the match after winning in Częstochowa.
As for representative appearances, Urbanowicz certainly has someone to compete with for a place, even in a slightly narrower group of midfielders. Jakub Kochanowski, Mateusz Bieniek, Norbert Huber and, until recently, Karol Kłos – these are just a few of the competitors. So it’s certainly not easy, but it seems that Urbanowicz has arguments to earn Nikola Grbic’s trust again.
It remains to be seen what the 200 cm tall center will achieve in the colors of ZAKSA. He also has someone to compete with, having such players as the extremely experienced David Smith, the solid Andreas Takvam and Mateusz Poręba, another talented player from the back-up center in the national team.
