A general from the Ministry of National Defense and a 15-year-old’s accident. A new expert opinion changes the course of the case
There was an unexpected turn in the investigation into the accident of a General of the Ministry of National Defense and a 15-year-old motorcyclist in Hrubieszów. The new expert opinion becomes crucial.
The case of the accident in Hrubieszów, in which General Arkadiusz Widła from the Ministry of National Defense participated, is again controversial. Initially, everything about the case seemed clear. The police concluded that the Volvo driver did not give way to a 15-year-old motorcyclist returning from training. The teenager was taken to hospital with a broken arm.
The event took place on August 23, 2025 in the province of Lublin Province. According to police findings, the car left the minor road directly in front of a moving motorcycle. The officers assessed that the right-of-way was being enforced.
However, the situation was complicated by the fact that the motorcyclist was riding a rally motorcycle without a road traffic license. However, the case gained even more publicity when it came to light who was driving the Volvo. He was a high-ranking officer of the Polish Army.
The general’s visit to the teenager’s family
As Onet reminds, after the accident, General Widło was to visit the mother of the injured boy. The accounts of the conversation between both sides differed significantly.
According to the general, the idea was to clarify the circumstances of the incident and convince the teenager to “tell the whole truth.” However, the family claims that the soldier suggested changing his testimony and accepting the version that the boy had lost control of the motorcycle himself.
Further discrepancies also emerged around the case. The general spoke about the teenager’s educational problems and the probation officer’s supervision, which the family denied, presenting a certificate of no criminal record.
The expert changed the direction of the proceedings
Following media publications, Tomasz Chwiejczak, a road traffic expert, was appointed to the case. His opinion turned out to be beneficial to the general.
Although the expert admitted that the Volvo driver was obliged to give way, he also found that the road conditions and the motorcyclist’s behavior could have prevented the driver from noticing the approaching vehicle. The opinion stated that in these circumstances “one cannot speak of enforcing priority”.
However, this position is questionable. Onet’s findings show that all participants in the incident reported good visibility and dry roads.
The prosecutor’s office warned the media
The investigation is being conducted by the military department of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin. Investigators did not want to respond to questions regarding the expert’s opinion. Instead, the editorial office received a warning that publishing information about the opinion may result in criminal liability. The expert himself refused to comment, explaining that the proceedings were ongoing.
