A famous island wants to convince tourists. “We are not in a war zone.”
Tourists are looking for places for safe holidays. A famous European island is trying to regain the trust of foreign guests.
Is Cyprus a safe holiday destination? – this is a question many tourists ask themselves, but there are still no simple answers. Even if the situation is stable now, no one knows whether the airport will be closed again due to the conflict in the Middle East. Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis and President Nikos Christodoulides recently commented on the uncertainty of tourists.
Holidays in Cyprus in 2026
Cyprus is struggling to regain tourists who, in the face of recent events, have decided to choose other destinations for their upcoming holidays. According to Cypriot media, the country’s authorities may soon intensify promotional campaigns to attract foreign guests this summer. How does this relate to security? “We are not in a war zone – we need to restore a normal situation on the ground, not the one presented in some media reports,” said Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis in an interview for Euractiv. He added that the level of bookings is slowly starting to stabilize after a sudden drop.
President Nikos Christodoulides also emphasizes that Cyprus is in control of the situation. “We have proven many times that we are able to adapt to difficult conditions and maintain momentum even in times of uncertainty,” he said. “Cyprus is not part of the region’s problems, but on the contrary, it serves as a pillar of stability,” he added.
Warning from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Meanwhile, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not lifted the warnings regarding travel to Cyprus. The island has a second level of threat on a four-point scale. “The ongoing armed conflict in the Middle East may also pose a threat to Cyprus. A sudden closure of the airspace to civilian traffic and difficulties in leaving the island cannot be ruled out,” the statement reads.
Wizz Air also decided to reduce the number of flights to Cyprus. As reported by Fly4free.pl, one of the three connections to Paphos has disappeared from the airline’s booking system.
