A dangerous cyclone is coming. Flights to a tropical island canceled

Cyclone Garance approaches the coast of Mauritius and the island of Reunion. Tourists cannot escape the element.
Mauritius closed the airport for fear of the upcoming tropical storm. The Garance cyclone is approaching the coast of the island popular among tourists with winds reaching up to 200 kilometers per hour. The highest purple alert was also announced on the French island of Reunion lying nearby. Warnings were issued for residents and foreign guests who should leave the coast as soon as possible and find a safe shelter.
Canceled flights from Mauritius
Mauritius, a small island country in the Indian Ocean, is today in readiness before the shot of the Garance cyclone. A dangerous tropical storm is to bring a strong wind blowing in gusts to up to 200 kilometers per hour, as well as the risk of floods. Disturbing weather forecasts led to the temporary closure of the airport in Mauritius. The International Airport located 40 kilometers from the capital Louis remains closed from Wednesday, and the decision applies until further notice. “Passengers planning a journey are recommended to contact air lines in order to obtain further information on flight status and failure to get to the airport,” we read in the announcement at the airport website. The same decision is also intended to be made nearby French island of Reunion, whose government has already introduced the highest purple alert meaning a threat to the population.
Tourists imprisoned on the island
Residents’ fears are great. The previous cyclone caused havoc in this region just a month ago. The governments of both islands again issued alerts that are to warn the inhabitants of danger and direct them from the coast deep into the land. Tourists should also find safe shelter. However, this may be difficult for travelers, whose hotels are located at the very shore of the ocean. Foreign guests are waiting for further messages in uncertainty. They are not able to leave the endangered areas with the nearest flight. “We are imprisoned in our hotel room, the wind howls, and the waves crash on the shore. It’s terrifying. We do not know when we will be able to return home by plane, “reports one of the British tourists quoted by Travel and Tour World.
