A championship team after years of expectation? A giant on the Polish market
Asseco Resovia Rzeszów is starting the upcoming PlusLiga season with high hopes. Will the team from Rzeszów manage to reach the final of the Polish Championship?
There is no doubt that in the case of Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, we are talking about one of the most successful clubs in the history of Polish volleyball. The club from the capital of Podkarpacie has repeatedly proven that it has huge ambitions and loyal, although demanding fans. Is it time to fight for PlusLiga gold in Rzeszów? Looking at the constructed composition, this is what we can assume.
PlusLiga: Will Asseco Resovia Rzeszów fight for gold? Strong transfers!
In the 2024/25 season, Bogdanka LUK Lublin turned out to be the best in PlusLiga. The Lublin team was led by Massimo Botti. However, the Italian coach did not stay in Lublin for the next season, but chose Rzeszów.
Botti will have many interesting characters in his new team. Importantly, experienced in fighting for high goals. The first, and probably the most important, is the quarterback Marcin Janusz. The new captain of Asseco Resovia came to Rzeszów from ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, together with American libero Erik Shoji and representative center Mateusz Poręba.
In addition, there are Karol Butryn, a very experienced league player, one of the pillars of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie in recent years, the Frenchman Yacine Louati, the Polish representative Artur Szalpuk, the Czech Lukas Vasina, who was previously in the club, the Slovenian Klemen Cebulj or the libero and Olympic vice-champion Paweł Zatorski.
– In fact, we have had a full squad for a week and we are able to conduct real training, in the same style as it will be during the season. And it’s very positive. I am also satisfied with the way the team is built, because we have a very strong and equal squad. I think this will be our huge advantage. Some weaker matches will happen to individual players and we will not escape from this during the league. However, everyone will be aware that there is a player in the square who can come in and give a lot. Don’t just cover a very bad performance, and he will be able to come in and give something extra. This is very encouraging – said Janusz in an interview with Piotr Siekierski for the #VolleyTime podcast.
Asseco Resovia has been waiting for the Polish championship since 2015. It seems that after ten years of waiting, they want to attack again in Rzeszów. Moreover, the team will also represent Poland in the Champions League. For the inhabitants of Rzeszów, it is a return thanks to the “wild card” received from CEV.
