A bison attacked a tourist. You won’t believe what the man wanted to do
A bison attacked a tourist near the town of Teremiski in the Białowieża Forest. The national park authorities drew attention to the fact that the man was not entirely blameless here.
On Thursday, October 30, in the town of Teremiski in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, tourists noticed a bison. The group decided to take a photo with this majestic creature. However, instead of taking a photo from a safe distance, one of the men got too close to the huge animal.
Teremiski. Bison attack, tourist was mauled
As a result of the bison attack, the tourist was taken to hospital. The authorities of the Białowieża National Park reported laconically that he had been injured. The tone of the message suggested that fortunately nothing serious had happened to him.
“Was photography worth it?” – asked the park representatives, reminding people to use common sense and keep an appropriate distance. “Once again, we appeal for reasonable behavior when encountering a bison and maintaining a safe distance – at least 50 meters,” we read.
The Białowieża National Park appeals: Do not feed the bison
“Let us remember that the bison is a large, strong and fast animal. If we do not respect its comfort zone, it may behave aggressively,” the release added. At the same time, an appeal was also made “not to lure bisons with food near houses.”
“Placing hay and other food for ungulates or predatory animals near settlements is not a help for the animals, but a threat to residents and tourists,” pointed out the employees of the national park.
Weighing up to 600 (females) and 900 (males) kilograms, bisons are the largest land mammals in Europe. They are a strictly protected species and their shooting is prohibited except in exceptional situations.
