A big change in water billing. Residents will receive a special alert
Waterworks increasingly rely on remote reading of water meters. The systems not only replace collectors, but also help detect leaks and failures.
Traditional recording of water meters will be less and less necessary. Water companies invest in radio overlays, thanks to which information about consumption can be read remotely, without the collector visiting the recipient.
The new solutions are not only intended to improve settlements. The collected data also allows you to detect failures and places where the greatest losses occur more quickly. This is important because average water losses in Poland range from 20 to 25 percent.
Remote reading of water meters. A collector is less and less necessary
The system uses radio overlays installed on water meters. They allow the company to read the status of the device without having to enter the property or arrange a visit with the resident.
This solution is implemented, among others, by: Zielona Góra Waterworks and Sewerage. The company signed a contract for the installation of 18,000 radio overlays, and the system will ultimately cover all serviced measurement points.
Waterworks want to reduce losses
Network digitization does not end with reading meters. The Municipal Utility and Housing Department in Przasnysz develops, among others: monitoring night flows, controlling pressure and analyzing data from measurement points.
Such solutions are intended to enable faster locating of failures and places where losses are greatest. The scale of the problem may be significant. The Supreme Audit Office’s audit revealed the case of a company in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, where losses amounted to 58%. In turn, MPWiK in Wrocław limited this indicator to 4.04%.
The system itself will notice unusual wear
Aquanet, which serves approximately 900,000 people, is also making a large investment. inhabitants. The company lists nearly 130,000 radio overlays and switches to a stationary remote reading system. The work is scheduled to be completed by 2029.
Consumption data is scheduled to be updated hourly. If the system notices unusually high consumption, the customer will receive an alert. This is to allow for a faster response in the event of a home installation failure.
A leak can mean thousands of liters of wasted water
Aquanet estimates that approximately 100,000 wastes end up in the ground each year as a result of such defects. cubic meters of water. Therefore, faster detection of incorrect consumption is intended to reduce losses and enable earlier reaction.
At the same time, the company is developing a network of measurement points and creating the so-called DMA zones. The combination of information from various systems is intended to facilitate the detection of leaks and failures and reduce the number of problems experienced by residents.
The system will also help detect illegal consumption
Monitoring can also be used to identify other irregularities. The data is intended to help detect, among others: illegal water withdrawal from hydrants.
The development of remote systems means that traditional visits by collectors will be needed less and less often. At the same time, waterworks will gain more detailed information about what is happening in the network and where losses occur.
